General information on Fiji

Fiji consists of 332 islands, with under 100 of them being inhabited. The main island is Viti Levu, with Nadi International airport being on the south/western side of Viti Levu. The Capitol of Fiji is Suva, which on on the south/eastern side of Viti Levu.

Travellers to Fiji are automatically granted a four-month tourist visa on arrival. This includes travellers from most Commonwealth countries, most of North, South and the Central Americas as well as Western Europe , Israel and Japan . Passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry..
The official currency is the Fijian Dollar FJD). In August 2005 -1$AUD is approximately FJD1.25, 1$USD is approximately 1.70 FJD. All major credit cards are generally accepted in Fiji and travellers cheques can be exchanged at banks and exchange houses in the major centres.
English is the official language, with Fijian and Hindustani as the most spoken tongues there after.
The area is free of tropical diseases such as malaria or cholera and inoculations are not required.
Fiji time is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
There are under a million people living in Fiji . Recent survey have 51% of the population is native Fijian, 44% Indian and the remainder are a mix of Chinese, Pacific Islanders and Europeans.
